Hello, I'm Tom Watts with the BBC News.Exit polls in Israel's 4th general election in less than 2 years suggest that Likud Party led by the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could win the most seats, but without winning a parliamentary majority.Mr. Netanyahu said the vote was a huge win. Likud Party member Nir Barkat said he was confident of a power sharing agreement. The results of the elections clearly show that there's only one candidate for Prime Minister, and that's Benjamin Netanyahu. The other three candidates actually collapsed, and I think that now what we need to do is form a coalition.Analysts say that a far-right party led by the former Defense Minister Naftali Bennett could act as a kingmaker.
President Biden has urged US Congress not to wait another minute to bring in a ban on assault rifles and tighter checks on gun owners. He said he had been devastated by another killing spree in Boulder Colorado on Monday when a gunman shot dead ten people at a supermarket. Mr. Biden said there must be commonsense steps to save lives, calling it an American, not a partisan issue. But Senate minority leader, Republican senator Mitch McConnell struck more cautionary when it came to possible gun control. There have been deep-seated philosophical differences between Republicans and Democrats about how to deal with gun violence. One thing we do know for sure is these shooters are invariably mentally incapacitated...mentally incapacitated. This is a vexing problem that is extremely hard to identify in advance.
Brazil's Supreme Court has ruled that a judge who convicted former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of corruption 4 years ago was biased. Leonardo Rocha has more.By three votes to two, Brazil's highest court concluded that judge Sergio Moro had violated Lula's rights in several locations. Mr. Moro had sentenced Lula to more than 9 years in jail for corruption in the state oil company Petrobras. Lula who was leading most opinion polls was banned from the 2018 presidential election and spent almost 2 years in jail. His luck began to change when hackers intercepted compromising messages, exchanged between judge Moro and the prosecutors, in which they showed political bias and discussed the need to expedite the trial in order to put the former leader behind bars before the elections.
